TRADITION at present, in most cases, has gone into such a degree of simplification of materials, that the main aspects seen in Archetypes are, in my modest opinion, lost.
Even if the aspect of practicality is invoked I cannot disagree more because Academic Regalia is not a day to way apparel. Instead it should bear all the uniqueness and dignity given to great occasions.
Tradition is mainly kept when the roots and archetypes that have presided to its inception are fully understood and known.

While the garment on the left still bears some contemporary dignity, mainly derived on the choice of materials, I do believe that there should be a return to a more symbolic dimension as can be seen in both New Concept and in Designs.

These statements are, by no means a belittlement of what exists, but rather a revisitation to the origins of Academic Regalia. apparently lost to the practicality of today's way of life.

Again, while the garment on the left is still invested by a great amount of dignity, the one on the right seems lost, mostly due to the colors and also to the fabric.

The empowerment conferred by the Academic Regalia should be as traditional as knowledge itself, for it symbolizes exactly the power of knowledge and of scholarship.

The
same principle applies to Justice where tradition in some countries is brought to the very extreme of reenacting.

It can be understood that in a generalized way, with the exceptions that confirm the rule, Regalia is kept more traditional in countries that have a longer history.

These thoughts on tradition are placed as they are part of the exercise of thought in creating the Academic Regalia.
