Hollow decorated Bronze Spear head

Dimensions:
Length 30.7 cm, blade width 8.4 cm, base-mouth diameter 4.0 cm.

The size is big and the base is cylindrical. The spear ridge is hollow and connects the base, which has a triangular ring on one lateral edge. The two wings curve at the end. The base-mouth is decorated with two sets of animal-face designs and the blade is decorated in a curved convex pattern. The base is inscribed with four characters.

Length 30.6 cm, wing width 8.0 cm, base-mouth diameter 3.8 cm.

This large spear has a cylindrical base. The hollow spear ridge is connected with the base; the base has a triangular ring on one side. The two wings curve at the end. The base-mouth is decorated with leaf patterns but it is unknown if there are any inscriptions as the rust has not been removed.

The spear blade is long and thin and the pointed edge is incomplete. The ridge-line is obvious and runs the length of the whole spear blade. The base-mouth is an arc and the cross-section is in a rhombus shape. In the early Shang Dynasty, spears were narrow but in the late Shang Dynasty, Western Zhou Dynasty and early Spring and Autumn Period, spears had wider edges. In the mid and late Spring and Autumn Period, more spears had narrow edges.

The blade of the spear is willow leaf shaped, with the cross section rhombus and the base elongated. There is a peg-hole at the top. The Chinese characters ‘申庫’ are inscribed on the blade.

Cleaver

Length 52.0 cm, width 6.7-7.0 cm, hilt length 8.0 cm.

This has an upward-rising point, a slightly concave edge, and a crooked back with a hollow angled ridge. The point and angled ridge are incomplete. There is a narrow straight hilt that is slightly bevelled. The two sides of the back of the knife are decorated with a one-legged dragon and cloud and thunder design.

Pole Arm in the shape of a Cleaver

The long rectangular shaped knife has a straight back and edge. The pommel rolls up and the back has four elliptic peg-holes, decorated with a triangular thunder pattern. The blade of the knife is decorated in dragon and tiger relief.

Bronze Long Mace

Dimensions:
Length 26.3 cm, diameter 4.0 cm.

The bronze body is in a cylinder shape and the surface is studded with nipple-nails. One end is sealed and the other end can support a hilt. Rusting is quite serious.

Multi-purpose Halberd

Length 30.0 cm, blade length 21.7 cm, width 22.2 cm.

The front end has a sword-like point, and the back is in the shape of a dagger-axe. The hu is incomplete with only one hook left. The back part of the tang is an edged hook with three peg-holes. The blade is plain and undecorated.

Plain Bronze Helmet

The cross-section of the helmet looks like a circle. The upper part is convex, and the front face has a heart-shaped opening with edging. The other two sides and back are plain and undecorated.

Iron Dagger

Dimensions:

The dagger is of a long rectangular shape with single edge. The front point gradually curves at the end, while the edge occupies 3/5 of the total length and at the back is a straight hilt. It is heavily rusted and certain parts have flaked away.

33-Year Zheng Ling Sword

The sword blade is yellow and green; while the edge reveals traces of having been used; the grip has an imperial mark. The blade is inscribed on two lines with 21 characters recording the year of production and name of the swordsmith.

Bronze Sword

This sword has a long-stripe shape. The middle of the blade is ridged and angled on top. It has a sharp point and edge. There is a flat grip with no cross-guard or pommel. This kind of sword was already popular in the early Western Zhou Dynasty. A special feature of the sword in later periods is that the blade was lengthened. The late Spring and Autumn Period to the Warring States Period is the time in which bronze swords flourished. The popularity of iron swords in the Han Dynasty led to the eventual abandonment of bronze swords.

Sword of Fu Chai - King of the Sate of Wu

The sword ridge is straight, with an oblique and wide upper blade surface. The front edge is narrow and the thick cross-guard resembles the Chinese character 凹 (indentation) . On the round grip there are two hoops. An animal-face design is carved on the cross-guard. The upper blade surface of the sword is designed with nine birds and seal characters meaning ‘For the use of Fu Chai, King of Wu State’.

This sword has a round pommel, hollow hilt, rhombus cross-guard, is double-edged and has a ridge. The front edge of the point gradually draws in and the cross-section of the sword blade is a rhombus.

The sword has a round pommel and round grip with two hoops. On the rhombus cross-guard the edge is narrow and long with a triangular point. The middle part of the ridge is raised.

The sword has a long la (combination of ridge, upper blade surface and lower blade surface), oblique, wide, thin upper blade surface and a cross-guard. The front edge is narrow and sharp. It has a long la and an oblique and wide upper blade surface. It has a ridge, rhombus and thin cross-guard. There is a round grip and pie-shaped pommel, the centre of which is hollow. The sword is plain and undecorated. Although the sword has a long history, its point is still very sharp.

The sword has a round pommel and grip, which has two parallel convex hoops. In the middle of the sword is a convex ridge. It also has a triangular point.

This sword has a round pommel, a round grip and a cross-guard. The central ridge is raised and the cross section is like a rhombus. The point is triangular.

Bronze Crossbow Mechanism

The crossbow engine structure is complete. There is a ya (device for nocking the string). There is also a guo (crossbar) equipped with a sight for targeting. Below the guo is a trigger. The crossbow is a long-range weapon and is very lethal. The crossbow engine is in bronze and installed at the back of the crossbow. In the late Spring and Autumn Period and Warring States Period, the crossbow engine had no guo but from the Han Dynasty onwards the size of the engine increased and had a guo, while the casting was more exquisite.

Height 3.5 cm, front width 2.2 cm, back width 2.9 cm.

This weapon has a guo (crossbar), ya (device for locking the string), trigger, and pivot, but the hook is incomplete and positioned within the ya. The front end of the guo is narrow and there’s a trough inscribed on the face, one end of the pivot is a square and the other end is round, in order to fix the ya and trigger on the guo, the sight device has five graduations for targeting. One side of the guo has an inscription of more than 30 characters inscribed on five lines, recording date of production and the rank of the owner.
