ART, GALLERY AND MILLENNIUM

At a time in world's history when the year two thousand has just been turned and Macau, as well as China and its Diaspora prepare to welcome and celebrate the year of the Dragon, the Foundation for Co-operation and Development of Macau has chosen a date in between these two for the formal opening of its Gallery, that was given the name Millenium.

To name a Gallery is not a gratuitous act. In the first place it is a sign of the Foundation's intention to insert its program in a context where Past, Present and Future are interconnect by the principle that any identity stands over a collective past for its projection onto the future.

Secondly, we whish to bring the population of Macau a diversity of exhibitions governed by a sole self-imposed limitation in creative and historical terms: quality.

In this manner, with the advent of a new millenium coinciding with the auspicious Year of the Dragon, the Foundation had to seek an artist of Macau whose work, charged with the Past, is already a part of the Future of our Present.

Thus, the Foundation for Co-operation and Development of Macau takes advantage of the symbolism of this date in between dates to salute the population and re assert its commitment in contributing to the development of Macau also through Art.
