MEETING
PLACE
Our understanding of culture is that of an
integrated pattern of human knowledge, beliefs and behavior. In
other words, culture encompasses a broad range of human activities
such as language, ideas, beliefs, customs, codes, taboos, rituals,
institutions, ceremonies, art expressions and other related
components of human activity, such as tools and techniques.
In short, the definition of culture is not elitist
and should involve all capabilities and habits acquired by man as a
member of society.
Though based in Macau, a cultural meeting-place of
East and West that is more then 450 years old, our intended approach
on cultural matters is not that of an ethnocentric kind, either
based on language or other socio-cultural differences.
An ethnocentric approach is a tendency to
interpret or evaluate other cultures in terms of one's own. To this
position we prefer Cultural Relativism based on an understanding and
appreciation of other cultures different from one's own, in a most
interactive and creative way.
We believe that culture is one of the most
powerful and constructive ways to provide mankind with the tools to
respect socio-cultural differences and to unite on what it has in
common.
With this short statement we wish to welcome you
to this Meeting Place where you can access our virtual exhibitions
