MESSAGE

This is the first exhibition in Macau ever to be fully planned through globalisation i.e., through the internet, and it has become a reality.

Thus, Past and Future are Present in this joint effort of SwordForum International and the Foundation for Co-operation and Development of Macau.

It is with pleasure that the curatorial skills and knowledge of Mr. Adrian Ko, President of SwordForum International, are acknowledged here as well as his dedication to this project.

Swords do not leave anyone indifferent. One may reject them or may feel a special attraction to these tools that have now gained the status of symbols.

They were born from the need of mankind since the Bronze Age, to find an extension to man's own arms in order to achieve his goals in the struggle for survival.

The articles that are included in this catalogue are self-explanatory to the importance of the sword as a tool that is intrinsically part of the history of all civilisations, thus of the History of Mankind itself.

I firmly believe that the very essence of the concept of Culture is devoid of all prejudice, thus allowing us to further broaden our horizons.

It is therefore expected that this rather unusual exhibition may lead our cherished visitors into another aspect of History and to a world of Symbols that have been hidden in dusty pages of the Past.

We hope that by bringing this aspect of History into light, we can contribute to a better understanding of Culture, of Morality and Ethics that should preside over all ages.
