The concept of new uniforms for a Corporate Company
such as C.E.M. that does not deal in leisure activities such as Tourism or Travel and whose uniforms are requested to show the
Company Colors may represent a more difficult and limitative task for the designer, specially because the number of employees will not allow for special material design that would make the
Corporate Colors combination blend in a more specific way.
This having been said, it is the task of the designer to present introductory thoughts on the
uniform's color for C.E.M.'s perusal and first decision.
The deep red and yellow Corporate Colors requested to be incorporated in the uniforms are not too easy to deal with, specially considering that it has to be applied both to men and women's uniforms.
There are two main approaches, that can be considered, with inevitable
adaptation of the colors scheme to more appropriate dressing colors.. |

|
THE HARD APPROACH
The first one we shall call it Hard Uniforms and will mainly be a display and combination of plain colors of which the designer had inevitably to add a gray color for the trousers and skirts and combine it with the deep red jacket for winter.
This is a very sober approach, with little incorporation of the yellow color as it is surely not a common color for men and
is seasonal fashionable for women. This will not, however, prevent an incorporation of the yellow color in a much softer pastel tone in the shirts, the only solution that can be viewed as a reccomendable one, without compromising the company's nature of
service and identity.
This type of uniform with plain colors, has taken in consideration that it will have to serve people of different body built, height and age, therefore showing a more conservative look.
The tie and the silk scarves for ladies will add a touch that will finalize the color coordination.
I am sure that C.E.M. will understand that this approach is an understatement, never an overstatement of colors and embroideries that would eventually make the people wearing them pretty uncomfortable and not too representative of the services they are providing.
It is foreseable that this type of uniform will definitely show a stronger difference between the staff and the
public, hence the Hard Uniforms terminology. |

THE SOFT APPROACH
This second approach is more intended to bring a more fashionable looking uniform, including a herringbone pattern that could lighten up the uniforms, making the approach to the public more humanized and less formal as a uniform, focusing more on the elegance, resulting in a more benefitial approach to the
Company.
In today's world of communication, where friendly service is a must, this approach may be more recommendable both for the staff's own pride in wearing it, the
Company's image, and the relationship with the public.
It will always be recognizable by the colors, the corporate tie for
men and scarf for ladies and also by a simple presentation of the new uniforms to the media. That will
not only will increase the Company's exposure to the public but
will also serve as a way of further staff identification and
another marketing tool.
There must be an understanding that with color imposition, the designer's
touch is firstly presenting a new color combination that can be wearable
as an adaptation to the Corporate Colors. |
DESIGNER'S ROLE |
|
Sometimes, a designer's role is to interpret the limitations
and work within that frame. An experienced designer will know when not to
affirm himself just by the sake of it, but by understating and presenting
solutions that may eventualy seem too obvious, but which will mainly
benefit the client.
Considering the limited number of staff, available material has
been chosen instead of specifically designing material that would prove to
take too long and too much to manufacture.
