my views on
aikido
since I first
started in 1968, grew as a result of my understanding that
technique did not satisfy me anymore. I used
aikido
to explain the basics. te waza, taijutsu, maai,
as well as the illusion of competition. having no kata,
aikido
can also be understood on a spiritual level, as it should be,
like iaido. you don't teach
aikido
in my opinion.one
learns his way into
aikido,
and interprets it according to one's own inner journey. to have
a competitive atitude towards anything is not to understand our
own position in nature and the natural order of things.
aikido
is in itself creative as it allows many ways to solve a
situation. one must understand the creative potential if once
can develop
shingen or
compassionate perspective or view. |

 |
|
why we hand our
wrist out instead of hurting
uke |
irimi
the
concept of
void instead
of confronting |
 |
 |
|
by moving away you
understand the meaning of the mountain and the breaking of
harmony by attacking. |
by moving inwards
and holding your opponent's fist, extend your right hand pass
his shoulder. |
 |
 |
|
while your opponent
is in motion, your left hand controlling, he is so vulnerable
with his own motion. |
or you can just let
him pass through your left hand while your right one is ready
for his left punch. |
 |
 |
|
as his body passes
by, you just push his shoulder, always keeping your right hand
controlling, |
same applies for the
earlier outer side-stepping. let the attacker own motion work,
then you grab his neck |
 |
 |
|
pull it towards
yourself and guide him in a spiralling movement, like that of
the universe or of a hurricane |
and send him
directly where he wanted to go. when you spiral, you are at the
center, where peace resides |
 |
 |
|
or you may want to
bring the spiral to a full stop by using your guiding hand to
stop the movement. |
be kind to your
opponent. make sure that after you have performed an arm pin, he
is alright. |
 |
 |
|
this hold can be
used to exemplify a difficult situation transposed to any level.
in the technical aspect you just move your waist sideways, bring
his arms frontwards, get him in front. here I chose to control
his left arm |
 |
 |
|
the pictures did'nt
cover the rest of the technique that ended up with a soft throw.
no
need for flashy throws |
you have a knife
pointed at your back. you just rotate sideways and the knife
will find nothing. |
 |
 |
|
complete your
rotation and you will find yourself controlling the knife and the
arm. this is just one way |
there are many ways
of ending a situation, taking the knife. as many as you create
your own
aikido view. |
 |
 |
|
you can also absorb
his frontal attack by side-stepping inwards and taking control
of his whole body |
the magnificent
thing is that there is no tall people or short people. time and
space is in your body-mind. |
 |
|
aikido
is a sphere. think of a sphere as something that has always the
same shape, yet if touched it rotates. only that
the way
it rotates
may yield to your touch, but it has its own way of responding to
you. |
|
hence there is no
need for more to see the creativity in
aikido
and how it can be transposed to design, because aikido is
solving situations through body-mind design. |
